WELCOME TO A WORLD RUN BY
So a new semester has started and I have leaped from my Accelerated Art class to my Digital Art class (which is also just a leap across the hall at my school). . But with this class there is going to be a lot of learning about a topic/theory/style and then applying it in our own way. Which I am totally down for. . So in that theme, our first project involved learning about the Gestalt Principles, which are theories of visual perception that graphic designers and digital artists use. . The Principles include:
We had a little template to go off of and it took me about 2 class periods to get it done, I have worked in Illustrator before so it was a fairly quick process for me.
. You can see the final down below but for this is what I did for each principle:
I really love how all of these turned out and I can't wait to see what we'll be making next in this class!

TA DA! . So here are the final shots of my Kingdom Keyblade from the video game Kingdom Hearts 3! . I am super happy with how it turned out and these photos that my teacher took over the weekend for me are amazing!!! . I do still have a bit more painting to do on the Tangled/Ever After Keyblade, but I am hoping to have it done soon and then take some final shots of it!
Whoooey! Today was a bit hectic, but I did get A TON done! . I took a video of all of the painting progress that I made on the Ever After Keyblade, but for some reason I cannot get the video in my blog post so I did my best to take some good screen shots. I once again used Alyssa's story highlights from @alyssahope_ on Instagram to help me paint the Ever After Keyblade. The in game reference photos from online tended to be pretty blurry so figuring out what colors went where was a bit difficult. But thankfully her highlights helped a ton once more!
Phewy, A LOT of progress was made today! (and last night) . I was able to get a lot done with wokring at home after school yesterday and at school today. I also was able to fully assemble the handle so the Ever After Keyblade is all built! YES! FINALLY! . I am still using the story highlights from @alyssahope_ and they are and have been super helpful! So go and check out her story and my other posts if you are planning or wanting to make a Keyblade for yourself!
I was also able to get a coat of Plasti Dip on the Ever After Keyblade as well as a second coat on the Kingdom Keyblade! So tomorrow I can start painting the Kindgom Keyblade while the Ever After Keyblade is drying with a second coat of Plasti Dip!
Another day, another nickel.
. Today didn't seem very productive from the update photos, but a lot of behind the scenes sorta things happened . I ended up attaching Rapunzel's hair to the window which will later be wrapped around and down the Keyblade. As well as actually securing the tower to the base and making that connection look nice and pretty. I also started cutting out a lot of details out of foam, really the final little detailed portion on the part near the handle. . I actually had a lot of bits and pieces done but no assembled (as seen in my last update). But I have finally gotten those pieces assembled! . I also began priming the Kingdom Keyblade, but I didn't take a photo of that because it looks pretty much the same, just white from the Plasti Dip, which is a EVA foam primer.
The tower has so much detail that I really wanted to include though it took a lot of math and measuring to figure out. Using reference photos became a HUGE help, though they were very sparse and few to look at. . But what really helped me was @alyssahope_ on Instagram. She made a highlight of how she created her Tangled Keyblade for a cosplay she did. Go check her out, she makes AMAZING cosplays and is just all around awesome! . Let me just tell you that when I say this was so helpful, truly a miracle, and helped this project stay together and even happen in the first place, that is an big understatement. If you are thinking about making a Tangled Keyblade yourself, FOR SURE go and check her story highlight out! Hopefully my posts and progress help you as well! . I've added parts of her highlight that helped me create the tower below!
The glaze is on and Pascal is ready for his final run in the kiln! There isn't much of a color difference on him at the moment, though there is a hint of green on him now. . I sadly forgot to take pictures of the specific glazes I used, but I used a white on his eyes and a shade of green for the rest of him. I plan on painting on eyes/pupils once he's fully done. . I also painted the main part of the tape measure yellow and the tip of it with a metallic gray so it will look like metal when finished (which you can sorta see on the left side of the first image). But the next step is to add the final clear glaze after it goes through the kiln and pascal is done! See you then!
Pascal came out of the kiln with his head attached! What a relief!
. There is a small crack towards the top of his neck, but hopefully the glaze can help glue that together and make it strong and secure. Speaking of which, those are the next steps, adding the glaze. It won't make much of a difference now, but once he goes in the kiln again, the colors will show through! So I have built a lot for the Kingdom Keyblade during class. BUT I haven't been taking pictures because I'm always rushing out at the end of class and then I forget the next day and I just want to get straight to work. So they're are not really progress shots for this one. . But now that I am home on break, I am not as rushed for time and I can take photos.
It's not going to be good weather to paint for a while, so I'll have to wait to paint this one.
. I also hadn't really been working on the other one (which is sorta meant to be due when I got back to school on the 8th). . But I've kinda gotten hit with a small wave of winter/seasonal depression since I haven't been super motivated this whole break. My boyfriend is in another country for the holidays, our first holiday season together, and I can't spend it with him. So that kinda sucks... . I've just been trying to count down the days till he gets back on the 6th, but being motivated to create has been tough. I hope I can try to kick my butt into gear and get at least some progress done on the other Keyblade. Wish me luck! |
