WELCOME TO A WORLD RUN BY
I originally bought some dark burgundy fabric for the corset (probably back in April of last year) for the corset, but on second glance I didn't think it looked right and bought some black fabric back in March of this year (literally a week after 'The Purge' at my school. That's the last day we were in school and everyone was cleaning out their lockers and such. Also on that trip to Joann's, the 2 boys that I was/still kinda am having issues/confusion with were there and it was kinda stressful. But that's a story for my therapist lol). . I ended up using that original fabric I bought for the lining so it wasn't a waste and also becomes a reminder of my little goof up. . For the magenta details I actually had some scraps from the skirt in my fabric stash. Which was PERFECT because in my eyes, those details are the same color as the main part of the skirt! Yay! . I also had one of those buttons you can cover with fabric from some sewing classes I took during my freshman year of high school so that was also exciting! . I also did not use boning for this because I didn't feel like it was necessary and I didn't have any lol
After that, the corset was done! . I'm really happy with how it turned out and I can't wait to get the rest of the pieces for this cosplay! . I'll most likely be posting updates on my Instagram @bricksymakes rather than here, so go check that out and follow me! Stay safe everyone <3

So this week in my art class we were tasked to make a pictogram around the idea of the whole quarantine thing. Not a great way tp take my mind off of things, but it was easy and simple and it allowed/forced me to be a bit creative since that has been hard to do lately. . Basically, we have to create a drawing using simple shapes that can depict a more complex idea, such as a simple sun drawing with a circle and some lines or the simple human figures used on restroom signs. . We can either create a drawing with the ideas of:
I ended up going with the second topic since I wanted (and need to for my mental health) steer away from the first at the moment. . We also had to write a little explanation for our drawing. I'm not going to include all of that writing since it gets a bit personal, but I may put a bit of it below. Honestly, I’m having a hard time with this quarantine. We all are. I feel all sorts of things and run through so many emotions one day to the next. . I feel like I’m in a bubble. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been outside much, but I was outside a lot these past two days and it still feels the same. I feel trapped. Able to look outside and I want to pop the bubble and get out, but I’m stuck inside from fear and anxiety. I’ve been watching a lot of Disney and Barbie movies and shows. I revert to a younger me when I’m upset or distressed. I watched Frozen two for the second time and a lot of the songs have been stuck in my head. “Lost in the Woods”, “Into the Unknown”, “When I’m Older”, and especially “The Next Right Thing”. . A lot of the lyrics and honestly to the whole song is very relatable at this point in time. . “I've seen dark before, but not like this. This is cold, this is empty, this is numb. . The life I knew is over, the lights are out. Hello, darkness, I'm ready to succumb… . This grief has a gravity, it pulls me down. But a tiny voice whispers in my mind. You are lost, hope is gone. But you must go on. And do the next right thing… . I can't find my direction, I'm all alone… . Just do the next right thing. Take a step, step again. It is all that I can to do. The next right thing. . I won't look too far ahead. It's too much for me to take. But break it down to this next breath, this next step. This next choice is one that I can make… . And, with it done, what comes then? . When it's clear that everything will never be the same again. . Then I'll make the choice to hear that voice. . And do the next right thing.” Stay safe everyone <3
I did another drawing guided by Michael Woodside @animwoodsy on Instagram. I was able to do this one "live" with him (I say live in quotes because he has switched to uploading a video on YouTube at 12 PDT instead of actually going live so the quality is better) . Once again he walks you through every step and it is super easy to follow! . This really brightened my day and I am so grateful that my art teacher shred this wonderful creator with me! So since my Digital Art class has been online and no one has access to Illustrator, it has become more of just a general art class, which is totally cool with me since being creative has been difficult and definitely can't be forced right now . One of our assignments was to complete a creative tasks from a small little list my teacher gave us to pick from. I decided to do a drawing guided by Michael Woodside @animwoodsy on Instagram. Michael is an animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios and has decided to do daily Social Drawing sessions where anyone and everyone can learn to draw some of their favorite Disney characters! . His walk throughs are super easy to follow and you'll be amazed by what you are able to create even if you don't think you can do it . He has been either doing a live stream on Instagram or posting a YouTube video at noon PDT every weekday with a new character! . Being creative again, especially with one of my fav characters (Pascal!) really brightened my day since all I have been doing is trudging through my assignments, screwing up my sleep schedule, wanting to see and hug and be with the one person who truly lifts my spirits and helps me through things, and just all around being a sad sack. . I'm hoping to do another one soon, but i don't know which character yet. Or maybe I'll try to catch one live , who knows! Another project is under way in my Digital Art class! We have been tasked with designing a cereal box . I am still on my pirate kick so I decided to so something Sea of Thieves related! I decided to design a cereal around the Pirate Lord and being a Pirate Legend called Athena's Fortune. The name is mostly because it was the first name that came to mind and I kinds have a good track record with naming things off of my gut reaction. . (I also have been working on an Elizabeth Swann cosplay so if you want to see how that is going, go and check out my Instagram @bricksymakes) . And as always, we start with a sketch!
I'll post updates as things start to form, but I'm really excited about this project even though I know I have a lot of work ahead of me (Mr. Pirate Lord is going to be fuuuun) EDIT (April 2020): After the day that this was posted, my high school went to an online format and will not being going back in person for the rest of the year. I sadly was not able to continue and therefore finish this project for 3 reasons:
So with being a senior I have been filling out A TON of scholarships, and because I am planning to major in Industrial Design, I have been filling out a lot of art scholarships too
. One of them asked me to draw on the envelope and so I drew some things from my favorite movie . Can you guess what it is? . It's TANGLED!!! . So I drew the lantern scene, Rapunzel's tower and Rapunzel herself on the back! I hope they like it! So last month I posted about a practice coffee cup made in Illustrator for my Digital Art class and how it was a practice for out next project. Well now that project is done! . The project consisted of us gathering info and creating a simplified and clean looking everyday object in the style the coffee cup was (you can click here to check out that post) I also have been really into 3D modeling and 3D printers ever since my boyfriend modeled and made me a Tangled inspired frying pan. We may even get a 3D printer for ourselves to print and sell these frying pans as it is a pretty cute and unique item.
Then I used my sketch to create my final image! It took a lot of work, but I think all of the time, effort, and details I put into it really paid off!
. I love the colors I used and I eve learned a few things about Illustrator too. I can't wait till the next project! So I have had a pretty rough few days. I am involved in my High School's Winter Percussion and I play the cymbals, therefore I am a Cymbro if you will. But since no one in the percussion department knows much about marching cymbals, we are either sorta left out or we have to figure things out ourselves. . There isn't always a whole lot of music for us to play, especially compared to the rest of the battery (which is the rest of the marching percussion incase you didn't know) . Basically what had happened was the Cymbros didn't do much of anything at our practice today since they kept going over a section (a pretty large section as well) in which we had no music. I have kinda been overworked, tired, and just overall drained as of late and this sorta pushed me over the edge into one of my funks. . Since we had pretty much nothing to do (no music to go over and definitely no visuals since this section was new to everyone and nothing had been set yet) I sorta just sat and decided to draw. Since I felt sorta useless and forgotten I ended up drawing a girl (who is really myself in hindsight) sat in a ball wrapped in some barbed wire. I was actually sitting in that position when I was drawing it and I didn't realize until afterwards (hints the "hindsight" part) . I also wrote "I REALLY DON'T KNOW EHAT THE BARBED WIRE IS, BUT IT'S THERE." next to the drawing originally. But as practice continued I started feeling a little better and I decided to remove the words (also because I didn't really like how they looked). Our instructors started talking about their plans for the next parts of our show, so that helped too. Remember if you are having some pretty intense feelings to talk to someone about them. Family, friends, or even sending me a message. Just let someone know.
. This situation ended up working itself out, but not all situations do, and in those instances I spoke with family and friends to help me get through those times. . Have a wonderful day and know you are valid and loved!
So it has been a couple of weeks since I have posted, and a couple of crazy weeks it has been for me . I sorta was sick for about a week and then had a hectic and tired weekend at District Honor Band... . But from being absent for pretty much a week, I missed quite a bit from some of my classes. Though the only things worth sharing art from my art classes
I ended up going with the logo that is on the sign outside of the pub spread out over the design
. I put the text of The Snuggly Duckling on one side and the duck logo on the other with more of a modern and less rustic design. I also added some sun designs and "WE GOTTA DREAM" to the short sides. . I'm really happy with how to whole design turned out. I put the digital version down below as well as some photos I took of the real life little mock ups we ended up turning in. The little cardstock matchboxes are super cute and I love how this project turned out! |
